What is there to do in Savannah?
I have lived here since the summer and I am getting bored. Summer was okay, we went to Tybee a few times, our apt has a pool, and we were new here so downtown was a treat. Now downtown is old and a pain to go to. I would like to learn about some bars at least. Is there a good dance club anywhere? Or a little hole in the wall bar where you can sing karaoke? What do people do here when it gets colder out? P.S. I don't want to get killed. I am talking safe area places. This city scares me.

Well, if you don't have interests in history, beauty, cultural events, shopping, antiques, tours, sitting in a square and reading a book and people watching and your idea of real fun is sitting in a bar - well then, there is probably nothing to do.

If your husband is in the military, try the American Legion downtown on the south end of Forsyth Park. For a number of years it was the hippest place in town (believe it or not). A bunch of locals pretty much adopted it as their personal hangout because the beer was cheap and it had that certain quality that all good dives have. Its popularity has waned a bit in the past year or two, but it's still cool and you will definitely meet some nice people who are willing to tell you other things to do for fun. And don't get all hung up on the danger factor, just go out and use common sense.
And they will treat your husband like royalty.

Angela,
I just moved away from Savannah a few months ago (not by choice, I loved it there) & had the same problem for a while, but luckily made some friends that knew the area. The only place I've seen Karaoke was at the Dewdrop which also meets your "hole in the wall" criterion. It's on Abercorn towards the Southside in the same strip as Bogeys (which is easier to spot.) If you like to shoot pool, go to Capones on Eisenhower (I think it's Eisenhower & Waters) by the theatre. Daquiri Beach (by Logans Roadhouse) is pretty cool, but not much to do there. I'm not a dance club kinda guy, so I can't help you there. I've been to all of these places and they all seemed safe to me (from a guy's point of view.) I can find out some other cool places if you'd like

Reason: Mistake in the name of one of the places

well there is the bar and the marina on Tybee for cocktails, there is the Art School for a really good film festival, there is tennis, and the beach, and the islands, and charleston up the road, Beaufort, the bookstores, museums, jazz and shopping, same as where you came from.
what is it that you would be doing in your own town? there are plenty of bars and dance clubs that are predominantly middle class white and are safe around there, the other people go to their clubs(if that is what you are referring to as "safe").
I live in the Northeast US, Philadelphia, but my home is in the lowcountry SC and i know savannah well. I am not sure what you expect there to be that you didnt do whereever you are from.
