All I can say is that its about damn time they widened this highway. Its dangerous and with all the growth in the area and the number of accidents on the U.S. 17 back river bridge, the project is very much needed.

Quote:
US 17, which is also known as Speedway Boulevard, has been the site of numerous accidents.
The DOT wants to widen the two-lane roadway from SC 315 in Jasper County to the I-16 spur in Chatham County.
The proposed project would be constructed in two phases.
The first would widen 17 from SC 315 to the Georgia state line.
Phase two would be the construction of the twin Back River Bridge.
The DOT is looking at having two lanes in both directions with a divided grass median.
Officials will hold a meeting on Thursday, Feb. 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hardeeville Elementary School.
Public meeting set for proposed widening of US 17

The previous two-lane Back River bridge was replaced with the new two-lane bridge. That bridge will eventually be two southbound lanes as the new twin bridge is built to carry northbound lanes into South Carolina. The exit and entry ramps to Savannah Harbor Parkway will need to be improved for better deceleration and acceleration. I am glad to see this project taking notice and moving forward.

I agree! I am not a fan of driving to SCAD's soccer complex to watch games off 17. Please widen it! Even though I have a CDL and have been driving for 30 years professionally. I do not like this road! It does need updating.
