We were riding around yesterday, and turned off Ogeechee Rd. and wound up on Southbridge Blvd., and eventually to Dean Forest Rd. We were totally astonished at how huge the area is, and how many different, pretty, neighborhoods are back there.

Mention of Ogeechee Rd, or Dean Forest Rd, and I never would have connected them with upscale neighborhoods.

Well it is indeed a high price per sq ft there. But did you smell the dump next door or hear the two interstates it backs up to? We looked in there and moved on for these concerns. Now the sound concern was based on driving through once so I could be off on this. Overall the area looks very nice because they didn't chop all the trees down like Pooler. Overall the west part of the county is still nice and pastoral looking and quiet. Though traffic on 17 is growing steadily.

I know what you mean. That's why I was so surprised at the massiveness of the neighborhoods there. Like, what were they thinking when the first guy said, "Let's build a neighborhood of half million$ homes, right near several of the least desireable areas of Chatham Co.?" When you are about midway through, on Southbridge Blvd. it does seem quiet and peaceful.

But then one only needs to look at some of those horrid McMansions to know that not everyone is very discerning.

Interesting story I heard from an alderman about clear cutting in Pooler... a guy owns a residential lot on 80, near the new city hall. He wants to cash in on his lot and have the zoning changed to commercial. He is clearing the lot while it is still residential, because he can. A commercial lot would be subject to restrictions, making it less valuable to a buyer, with trees on it.

Not sure if this is a common practice, but maybe.
