Pimbrook, Ga
My family and I are coming to Ga at the end of the month, I am originally from Ga but have lived in Michigan for the last 16 yrs and not from the Savannah area at all. While making reservations at a hotel in Pooler the lady who helped me said to check into the town of Pimbrook, ( I had told her of our moving there) she said the schools are great and the town is small and affordable. It does looks that way too on the internet search....anyone have anything to say about it? We are used to small town where everyone knows everyone. And the school here is good. so we would like sorta the same.No big city for us.thanks for the help.

It's Pembroke, and it certainly isn't a big city by anyone's standards. You will have to drive to Savannah or Statesboro for most things. If you are going to need employment, it's mostly a farming type community with less than 3,000 population. The following link says it's about 30 minute drive to Savannah. Well, yes....if you mean the Savannah City limits. However, if you should want to get to the Malls or to a movie, add another 20-30 minutes.
The City of Pembroke, GA

Pembrook
i did check out the web site , and I agree it does sound like a small place, which is actully ok with us. You have answered questions for us before, as I find out about areas I ask on this web site if anyone knows anything.
You have been very helpful
My husband will be working for Gulf Stream. I belive this is in or near Pooler. We are not in town people, we like the quite of the end of the street or out of town, not so far as to be all alone....but you have the idea.
We are used to driving a good 30 minites to go shopping for food, and to a good size mall its an 45-60 minite drive, ( all back roads ) and I drive 20 miles now to work, and to answer your question , yes I too would need to find work.
My biggest promblem is a school that our 11 yr old would go to, she is not used to a BIG school , but not afraid to go to one. I just want it to be a good school. with decent kids.
Thank you for the help, we will be down there the end of the month and check it all out.
Keep up the great work, I see your reply to alot of people and it is helpful. I have started checking this web site for our area here too to help people move here. Thanks.

Snow, if he is going to be at Gulf Stream, then somewhere in the Effingham County area might be a good choice too.
The schools in this area, if they serve small towns like Pembroke are consolidated systems. That is, one or two BIG schools with a lot of children bused in. You really won't have much choice in the matter. In Georgia, you go where you are assigned unless the school is substandard. Then you can apply for a transfer to a better performing school, but you usually have to provide transportation. Of course, there are always private schools. I have heard that the schools in the Bryan and Effingham county systems are good. I don't know if this is true or not. Perhaps some of the other posters can answer you better than I can.

Schools in 'fingham and Bryan are good by Georgia rural standards, nothing to get excited about
"better" doesn't mean academics
Effingham students beat national average on ITBS (Archives)
but do not have the advanced offerings of the Savannah Schools.
Screven County and Toombs County School are better ranked but an hour + commute to Savannah

snow4461,
I'm also from ga. although currently living in n.c. But I have family in savannah and family in PEMBROKE ga. All four of her girls have attented Bryan county schools and was very much pleased with the school system. Pembroke is a small town but within an hours drive to savannah and tybee isand (beach). Pembroke is a small farm town as are many of the small towns that surround savannah. most of these small towns do not offer much when it comes to grocery stores, clothing stores or employment. I've just learned that pembroke has just got a family gym altough I don't know how large it is. The last time I had heard anything about gulfstream it was still located in Garden City. One of the previous poster's said that effingham county was closer which is correct. Guyton and Springfield are small towns in Effingham but I don't know anything about their school quality. And yes yu don't get to choose where your child goes to school, it all depends on what school disctrict you live in. But usually there are a couple of primary schools and 1 or 2 middle schools and 1 large high school. GOOD LUCK!

Gulf Stream is next to the Savannah Airport on the road between Pooler and Port Wentworth, but within the City of Savannah
