Daily subscribers of SMN. Read your Savannah Morning News bill. They are going to charge $3 to send you a paper bill and charge extra for for premium editions which will shorten the length of your prepaid subscription by the cost of these premium editions.

I guess I will update this thread. Our local newspaper "The Register Guard" has just been bought out by GateHouse Media.

OMG! I forgot what "yellow journalism" is. This pretty much brings it back into focus.

Well I guess this our new reality.

It is getting very hard to justify the monthly cost of the SMN. There’s not much “there” there.

I get the times & journal delivered... There really isn't much SMN puts out that WTOC or other TV stations don't also cover. Sad as I love hometown newspapers but with the consolidation of papers under a single ownership group, which has reduced the quality of the newsroom to were there is no local investigative reporting. Right now we have another huge scandal which I predict will bring down Mayor Deloach & the district attorney Heap. SMN finally has a story up after it broke on social media two months ago.

I subscribe to the digital edition only and for what I get an pretty satisfied — all access for $9.95 a month, including the digital print edition which I can access on any platform.

I’ve also been fairly impressed with the changes made to the Savannahnow website. It’s a corporate design / operation but seems to offer more (and is easier to navigate) than the old website was under Morris.

I think the print edition, for what it is, is more consistent now than it was under Morris, again because it’s part of the Gatehouse corporate production center. We can legitimately argue about whether the content is any better, but I do think the look of the paper has improved.
