Default Bad areas for Bugs

We were house hunting in Savannah recently and noticed that in South Harbor, we were eaten alive by the bugs. Is this the same for all of the Island areas: Wilmington, Isle of Hope, Skidaway, etc.?

Yes, to some degree much of Savannah is affected by sand gnats in mild weather. When it is cold or it is hot, they are not as bad.

Mosquitoes are also quite common at dusk. The county sprays for them but it is impossible to kill them all. Nor would we want to, perhaps.

Spring is probably the worse. They don't seem like either hot or cold weather. They love some people and others are left alone. Some perfume seem to make them worse. Areas near the marshes do seem to be the worse.

It's the South! Besides gnats and mosquitoes, we have the kinds of bugs you could put a saddle on and ride. Not much you can do about it - learn to enjoy bug spray and hire an exterminator.

The Salt marsh Mosquitoes are horrid. I remember visiting relatives on an island near Fort Pulaski and having to wrap up in blankets between the car and house. I've never understood living out there "Marsh view" is nice from the window. They are not year round but I found a few this week.

Sand gnats only come out when the weather is nice enough to for people to be outdoors to enjoy in the Savannah area. That means enjoying the nice weather is impossible. The rest of the time it is too hot and humid to enjoy being outdoors. Just my opinion, of course. Some folks like the heat and don't mind the humidity. Not me.

Ever heard of the Gnat Line? It generally runs from Columbus to Macon to Augusta...south of it, the bugs are pretty much relentless.

Sand Gnats are NOT the only bugs that are bad in Georgia. There were **** roaches the size of small cats! I lived in Ft. Stewart, Ga for over 5 years and was happy to leave the bugs behind. Savannah is beautiful and I miss it...
