Default Wheaton Street Safety..

How safe is the area around Wheaton Street, The Baptist Association and the Family Dollar/Dollar General store next to it?

I know it's close to Hitch Village, however would it be safe for a person to take a bus over there down waters to towards the Baptist Association during the daytime?

Thanks!

Will you be walking down Wheaton Street or will you be working in the Bapt. Assoc. Building?

Anywhere, Savannah or otherwise, there is a parking lot with lots of cars in it, there will be purse snatches. No place is 100% safe all the time. However, this is not some kind of war zone. There are worse places. I don't think I would go there at night, however.

I don't think you'll have any problems during the day. I know that area pretty well and think it looks scarier than it actually is. You'll be out in the open in a relatively populated area.

Purse snatchings are quite rare here. They most often happen to older women who are busy with something else. Keep your head up and pay attention to who is around you.

When I see someone on the street who I don't want to deal with - if I think they want something or if they look suspicious, I simply change course and keep some distance between us. That doesn't happen often. I've only had to yell at someone a couple of times. "Go away."

Thanks for the advice.

I have read all of the horror stories of those housing complexes that are around wheaton street and the baptist center, so I have pretty much avoided it.

I will also be carrying pepper spray for protection, just in case.

Thanks again!
