Default Looking to relocate to Savannah? Should I?

After a 25 year love affair with Biloxi and the MS Coast, it took only 1 1/2 years to enlighten me on what the place is really like. Well...my dislikes far outweighed my likes!
Suffice it to say, I am now on a quest to find a new city to put all of my heart and soul in...maybe thats the problem. However, I do believe the grass can be greener on the other side...especially when in Milwaukee and its only green 4 months out of the year!
Anyway...Savannah has always been intriguing to me, however, some of the posts on this forum lead me to be a bit leary. The other town on my short list was Hilton Head. Is Hilton Head really close to Savannah? To look at some pictures, you'd think they were just a bridge apart?
Is Savannah clean? The main reason I disliked MS is it is very dirty...litter everywhere. Dogs running loose everywhere...they have very lax laws on animal cruelty. I was not impressed with the natives either...they seemed to fit the stereotype of southerners....lazy, illiterate slobs. Please dont take offense by that stereotype, I dont necessarily believe it...but go to any store parking lot there, like Walmart, and you will see what I mean. Litter all over...no one returns their carts. The whole area seemed dirty and not orderly. It was this way even before Katrina...I guess I just never realized it was that bad. If Savannah and Hilton Head are like this, I know I wont like it. Maybe I just cant live in the south at all, perhaps its just too laid back and I may be just to uptight and anal?? I would really appreciate any advice from anyone in this area. I will preface all of this by saying Im extremely picky...more than the average person. Milwaukee has 1.4 million people in our metro area, and in most areas, you could eat off the streets. Thank you in advance for your help.

Then i think you need to pour your heart & soul into Milwaukee, as you seem so in love with it.

I've got a feeling that you won't like moving to the Savannh. You seem to want Paradise. No matter where you move, there will be things about the new place that you won't like. There will be people that you think are unacceptable. That's the Real World, anywhere. I agree. Stay where you are. At least you will know your way around town.

Most of Savannah is clean. We thrive on the tourist trade. That means you keep the place looking as best you can. We also have a very strict leash law for dogs. In most areas it is enforced.

Hilton Head is about 50-60 miles depending on where you start from and where you end up. During heavy traffic, it can take up to two hours. It more of a resort area than a city. Employment could be a problem in both places.

I can't help but agree with ellie's comment above. Savannah is filled with some real idiots. Politicians, DRIVERS, conservatives, etc.. although this is just my personal opinion.
I'm actually a pretty picky person myself. Savannah has grown on me in the 17 years I've resided here. To give you a professional answer, I'd have to say fly or drive yourself down here and explore the area for yourself.
As for Hilton Head, yes, it is more of a tourist destination, no, it does NOT take 2 hours to get there from Savannah (I have no idea why that was so badly exaggerated), more like 45 minutes to an hour. Shouldn't be any more than 35-40 miles depending on where your destination is on Hilton Head. Oh, and yes, you may encounter some traffic on your way there. 278 and 46 in SC can sometimes be a headache, particularly 46 if you cannot stand some of the slower drivers you can't pass because of the curves.
Anyway, give Savannah and Hilton Head a visit! It wouldn't hurt to at least say you've been here and explored!

Good luck! ...from a fellow picky citizen like yourself! =)

My mother was from MS; if she were still alive, she'd snatch you bald-headed.

Agreed. I have never seen a more blue collar, doltish place than Wisconsin (other than Wyoming) in my life.

Things to do in Wisconsin:
1. Cook meth.
2. Rake leaves.
3. Scrape ice off your piece of **** car.
4. Get plastered with the other rejects from down at the plant.
5. Discuss which revolting fast food dump has a "new sandwich" with the other LaVerne and Shirley rejects from down at the plant.

Really mean, but I have to admit I'm laughing.

Oh, lighten up!! That was funny...
Besides, I don't usually react to people that refer to my mama's kin as lazy, illiterate slobs by handing them an iced tea or a mint julep.
