Your information was extremely helpful. It was an unbiased opinion. I will be visiting the area. Thanks

To Al and FFG3...it looks to me like you're on the Internet your fair share as well, certainly more so than I, but you just don't like my particular message.
I love Savannah, just so you know. It is beautiful and unique, and looks way better than it did when we came here in 1968. SCAD has done a remarkable job. It just makes me sick to see what has happened in terms of crime.
The reason I'm so upset about the crime is because of my own personal experiences. And no, I did not go looking for it. Unfortunately, it came looking for me. When you get attacked in your own driveway, minding your own business, in a "good" neighborhood, you might understand.

^ Agreed.
There was a string of break in's somewhat recently around my neighborhood. A lot of the houses near me are full of doctors, local restaurant owners, it is what you would consider a "good" neighborhood.
You've got to remember...the "good" attracts the "bad".

Oh my goodness. I have been watching the posts...for most of us who are interested in relocating to Savannah, some of you who are replying are a real TURN OFF. Before I say anything further, I am a mom, business leader, proud veteran and concerned about my children's future. So, where we end up moving is the most important thing for my husband and I to consider at this point. My children are into baseball, softball and equestrian sports. My husband is working in Savannah at the moment. I am sad to say that with the research I've done, the areas we have "experienced" so far and the posts I have read have not helped us make any sort of confident descision. The way you have been defending Savannah is quite amusing! "the good attracts the bad?" "always pack heat" I can tell that some of you folks are an older generation, set in your ways, blind to the reality of present day Savannah. Your own visitor center representatives even warn families who are interested in moving to Savannah, to either have your children home-schooled or placed in a private school if you want a drug free, gang free, decent education that is of NATIONAL standards. I'm not saying that any school is perfect. For all of you who live in Savannah and sit here on this sight to defend it, have you walked or driven down every street in Savannah(since you know it so well), lately? You are happy to comment about the areas that you have experienced and are comfortable in. You are blind to the areas you know nothing about. So don't represent the entire city if you have not been there. "I don't leave my island." Why not? What Savannah schools are you talking about that are in the "top 10"? If you are so confident about your crime rates and the areas you refer people to, why do you feel the need to check metrocrimemaps.org so often? You must be getting worried. You might also want to contact Mike Wilkins/SCMPD to see just how many gangs there are in Savannah at this time! You might be suprised.
Look folks. I know my mom taught me that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. I believe if you can't say anything nice, atleast be right about what you say! If you are trying to "sell" Savannah to a potential newcomer, please stay positive, focus on the HERE and NOW. Look at how you respond to people who have had bad experiences in Savannah, in the past. Also, you can't deny it....everyone sees what they want to see!

"I don't leave my island."
Hmmm...
Who could have said that?

AKA <All Kidding Aside>
I have no need to.
With the rare exception of something very specific, everything I need is available on Whitemarsh...Wilmington...Tybee.
And pretty much all I post about is "my island".
I offer no opinions on the rest of the city.
I'm not qualified to because... "I don't leave my island."
I defer to those that have been there, done that.
Did I answer your "Why not?" part of your rant?

I owe Adams'mom an apology. You won't believe this but I was one of the break ins in the good neighborhood. My wife and 4 year old got home three days ago to find the back door crashed in all valuables missing and the house wrecked. I guess y'all were right.

That has gotta suck for you.
Where abouts do you live at?
Not specific, just general.

wow. That's awful. I have a lot of inherited heirlooms in my house and do worry about them. Funny how much hold an inanimate object has over you.
Out of curiosity FFG3- do you have a dog? I live in the bad neighborhood but have 2 dogs that I hope are a deterrent.
