Savannah is certainly dog friendly. I'm not a fan. Personally I think dogs should have a place to run and bark and crap where they don't have to do it in my yard or in a public park. You should fit right in here in Savannah....sigh.

Sorry for the rant. I just hate the new dog loving, dog friendly society.

All of Savannah is already a dog park. There is going to be a new dog park built over on Tybee Island because they don't allow dogs on the beach.

Now having said that we would like to live in the historic district. But after reading many of these posts about how awful the crime is, and our new realtor saying this and that area she will not show us houses in due to the awful neighborhoods I am really confused.
So I thought maybe I would ask some old time Savannahians (is that a word??) what you thought of these streets and areas.

So what do you all think????

By GA Real Estate LAW your Realtor has to show you homes that fit your needs/wants, etc. and let you make the sound decision, etc. We call that steering and it's not only unethical, it's illegal. If she continues, then I suggest get yourself another Realtor.

I recommend that you educate yourself as much as possible on the area (like you are doing here) Nothing better than getting word from the locals that actually live there. Savannah is a beautiful city. And just like any other city, has it's good and bad spots. Good luck!

One good way to really "see" a neighborhood is to drive around in it at night. What may seem acceptable during the day, becomes a bit edgy when the sun goes down. then ask yourself if you think you would feel comfortable strolling around after dark. Also look at the streets for at least one block north and south of where you think you would like to be. Friday and Saturday would give you the best idea of what you really are looking at.

I just have to mention this....we hired a minister...he bought a nice house in a good section of town without asking any of his congregation. It turned out that it was only a couple of blocks from the ambulance entrance to a busy hospital emergency room. The street besides his bedroom was the main route in. Think about having sirens on and off just about every night.
