Default Single Living in Savannah? What do you think?

I am considering moving to Savannah. I have not yet visited Savannah but I plan to in the next month. I am interested in moving to some place with a slower pace of life. I have lived in NY all of my life and I want a more relaxed environment with friendly people. Many people have told me Savannah is a wonderful city and from the descriptions I have read in novels, I have to admit I am interested.
I am at the point in my life where I need a revitalization - new people, new friends, new experiences. I run a home based business so employment is not a big concern for me.
What I am interested in is social activities - I am a single 30-something. Are there lots of single people in Savannah and social settings/activities to meet people?
My other concern is race relations - Having never lived in the South and reading these forums, I dont know what to think. I have always lived in diverse areas with Asians, Latins, Caribbeans, Whites, etc. I do not want to live in a city where the blacks and whites although they may mingle at work, they do not socialize or live amongst each other. I myself, am of mixed heritage of Caribbean African, Caucasian and Indian ancestry. I do not want to live somewhere, where people are going to want to label me and put me in a box and say I belong to one group because I embrace all of the different cultures that represent who I am.
I judge people for people and not for race or religion. Is Savannah an open environment where cross cultural socialization occurs? I really hope so!!!

Unfortunately, not so much. In places and at times it does. But it just doesn't happen on a regular basis. There are a few outstanding individuals who have managed to seamlessly cross into both worlds, but for the most part no.

You're still welcome here, of course.

Thank you for your responses. After further investigation, I have reconsidered to either San Diego or Charlotte.
