Guyton? Rincon? Pooler? Where?
Looking at moving up from the Gulf Coast to serve a church near Guyton. We live in a smaller town here, but it's a city and lots to do within 15 miles each way - beach, shopping, restaurants, etc.
Familiar with SAV metro in years past, spent a weekend up there last fall downtown.
But my fear is that Guyton maybe too rural for us. Any chance there's somewhere near enough that has a more urban feel to it we could live in? Any place nearer the water? (We're a mile off the bay here near Destin and we'll miss that for sure).
Family matters a lot so finding the right place for us is a priority in determining whether this is a right move. No kids, but we do have a Great dane that we baby.
Thanks for the help.

Guyton will be IT for you unless you want to live in Savannah. Some members of your congregation might wonder about that choice.
There aren't any urban areas near it. Guyton has easy access to Savannah. Traffic can be bad at times during that going-to-work period, but that passes.

They probably will prefer a pastor with his sanity and his family intact. I grew up out in Bibb County on 40 acres, but not really into the exurban life.
Thanks,
David

It's not really your typical rural community. It's more like a bedroom community for Savannah now. Of course, there are farms nearby, but that's not the mainstay for the people living there. I would say that it leans more to the urban than towards the rural. It's growing by leaps and bounds.
Dont' worry. It's small, but it really isn't what you are dreading......and I know what you mean!! I used to visit kinfolk in rural towns. Nope. Not my cup of tea.

Thanks for the help. I guess we'll see when we go for a walk around. We rent and happen to have a Great Dane so where we live may depend on where affordable housing that will also accept him is available.

I would categorize it the other way, leaning a little towards the rural side. Guyton's about mid way between Savannah and Statesboro so you can head either way when you feel like going into the big city. Guyton is also a very historic city.

That's the way I remembered the area too. I'd think we'd be better acclimated to Rincon, Springfield, even Port Wentworth. Those historic homes might be pretty, but they have pretty price tags too. I'd really love a normal neighborhood with shopping fairly nearby. I can literally walk to the bank and post office here. Don't expect that, but I do like being in the city.
But I'll know for sure next weekend.

Maybe look at Pooler or Bloomingdale. Right next to Savannah, good area and Pooler has grown 10 fold in the last decade.

That Chatham County or Effingham? I think it's Chatham and I really would need to stay nearer than that I think.
Thanks for the help.

I looked at the Georgia Map and Guyton is less than 30 miles from Savannah, depending on where you start from and where you are going. I still think it's going to be your best bet. You would probably take Hwy 80 or Ga 17 into Savannah. It's not a bad drive. I think trying to live in Pooler or Bloomindale and tending to your congregation would be a problem. You would still need to go into Savannah for a lot of things.
