Parking - Downtown Savannah
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to Georgia and even newer to working in downtown Savannah (historic area). I need parking advice / information.
Currently, I pay every 2 hours. I have to remember to go out and put in more change every 2 hours. Any private lots? How do I find them? I do know there are 10-hour meters on Abercorn (about 2 blocks away from my work and about 3 hours a day) but I'm told to not walk there after dark and I work until 8p.m. some nights.
It's first come/first serve right now and I'm spending a lot of time going around the blocks every morning looking to park Any suggestions at all?
Thank you!

There are longer hour meters on the east side of downtown. Specifically I know there's 3 & 5 hour meters going east on York and maybe along Lincoln near York. On toward East Broad there are even some non-metered (free) spaces.
This doesn't mean there's not some on the western side too. Just that I'm not over there much and don't know.
Another option is to check the City parking garages. Try 651-6470 for Parking Services.

Thank you, Joss. I found the meters on York Street. My co-workers were not aware of these and they are from Savannah
Parking Services was very helpful, too. I appreciate your post!

Welcome. You also mentioned being downtown till 8pm some nights. Keep in mind that the meter maids go home at 5pm. So feeding the meters past 5 is pointless.

My sisters and I are going for the day to eat lunch at Paula Deen's Restaurant and then a carriage ride. One of the sisters is going through chemo right now. Is there a parking lot or garage near the restaurant? Thank you for any help. Dale Florence SC

There's one not too far away at Liberty St. and Montgomery, I believe, not far from where you come into downtown near the I-16 exit ramp across the street from the Civic Center. There's a free shuttle bus that circulates around downtown, but you will have to ask someone else what its route is. Go to the Visitors Center, if you have time, and pick up a map and shuttle schedule.
Best bet is to drop your sisters off at the entrance of the restaurant and just drive around a few minutes till you find a spot. Usually you can find a place in short order. Bring lots of quarters. I think that neighborhood still requires change. Some parts of town have upgraded the meters to the ticket system, but not I'm not sure about that one.

You might want to look at the other thread on Paula Deen's restaurant. Had useful info.

I would suggest calling ahead and asking if you can get an exemption to "No Reservations". You might want to tell them about the situation and that your sister doesn't have the stamina to stand in line for hours. They may be sympathetic.
