Default Do any of you prefer St Simons Island over Tybee Island?

Now that you answered my Tybee questions, my husband is leaning towards St. Simons. Are we making the right decisions!?!?

Oh, God yes..no comparison.

I have been going to SSI every summer of my life...it has been a constant in my life and that of my children. My sister and I own property there and my mother's people come from there. It is a wonderful place and has so much more depth than Tybee. I love it there. Can you tell?

My husband and I are going back and forth. Now he is concerned that St Simons will be too snooty and the restaurants will be expensive. Please tell me that there are some decent family restaurants and a laid back vibe, so I can then tell him.

It is not the least bit snooty. It has an amazing selection of restaurants and is as laid back as it gets.

You're the best. Thanks for taking the time to help out. It looks like we're going to St. Simon's Island. We once went to Kiawah Island, and I loved it and he found it sterile and snooty. I think he's afraid that SSI will be similar. Either way, I won this battle, and St. Simons it is

I haven't spent as much time on St. Simon's as on Tybee, obviously, but I've never thought the beach was very good down there. Maybe things have improved, but I wouldn't even include it on my list of beaches to visit.

If I were going to choose something different, I'd go to Fernandina Beach. Seems like a perfect blend of beach, history, and things to do.

The entirety of Kiawah was planned as an upscale, country-club oriented resort. St Simons has been established as a community much longer than that; it has a thriving village, a pier and plenty of public access to beaches.
Here are some websites that might be helpful:

www.explorestsimonsisland.com

The King and Prince is the island's premier resort...very family-oriented.

www.KingandPrince.com

Many visitors choose to rent condos or cottages (which makes sense economically). Here's a site for shopping that:

www.hodnettcooper.com

For a rental, I would concentrate my search on East, Coast Guard and King and Prince Beaches. The village area is great, but it's on the sound and is a bit far from the better beaches.

Feel free to DM me with ????

Lauren
