Default Looking for some detailed info about Savannah area

I have some questions about Savannah area...If I wanted a nice acre or so in a quite area - safe for kids, not more than 30 minute commute to Savannah and about 20 min or less to a beach, what would you suggest? If you need any more specific details, please ask...

Pam

My guess is that will be tough unless you find a rare property and want to spend a LOT of money.

The only place that meets your wishes are the islands between Tybee and Savannah. Tybee Island, or the "beach", is about 30 minutes east of downtown Savannah on US80. Between Savannah and Tybee are several residential "islands" that are very thoroughly developed; Wilmington Island, Whitmarsh Island, etc. Other than these residential islands, US80 is a thin ribbon through non-buildable marshes.

I'm sure there ARE some one acre lots out there... but they will be very, very expensive since buildable land is pretty well used up now. You will need a local realtor to give you some specifics. My guess is an acre lot alone will be several hundred thousand dollars.

For cheaper land, you have to move the other side of Savannah (west) and are no longer 20 minutes to the beach because the only way to the beach is through Savannah. Take a look at this area on Mapquest or something similar and it will make more sense.

There definitely is alot of growth going on here in Pooler as well as Effingham and Bryan counties. You will find more land the farther out you go for reasonable prices. I agree with Joss, any land that you might find usually will cost a pretty penny because of proximity to water. Bluffton, SC is nice as well. I heard the homes are slightly more expensive but it's a great area. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
