I use Red Rose Tea.....make a simple sugar syrup in about a quart of water... add the tea bags (5) to the boiling hot syrup with a tiny smidgeon of baking soda and let steep about 5 mins....and then cool thouroughly.......then add to a glass with ice! I am not southern....but have family in SC....asked around and this is what I came up with. I don't pour hot tea over a glass of ice.....not if I have time to let it cool.

Lipton makes a brew kust for iced tea that is very good. The way to make Southern sweet tea is: to make 1 gal...3 family size tea bags, bring to boil, add 2 cups sugar, COVER, and simmer for 10 mins. Add to cold water and refrigerate. You have to cover the tea to keep in the flavor.

I saw Red Rose Tea for sale somewhere here in Savannah. I think that is the one I tried before and really liked. Thank you.

Bring 2 family size teabags (Luzianne) and just a small pinch of baking soda to a full rolling boil. Turn off and let it set for about 10 minutes. In a gallon jug, put 2 cups of sugar and about 1 quart of warm water and stir until sugar is dissolved. Add about 3 cups of ice to your jug before pouring your tea over into your jug. This will cool your tea faster. If you jug is not full, finish filling it with cold tap water. Now this is Sweet Tea!!!
