Default Seafood Market in Savannah/Tybee

Can anyone recommend a seafood market either on Tybee or not too far off the route from 95 to Tybee. We're coming from the south, so we could take the 16 or 204 exit.

We live in Florida and look forward to our trips to the Georgia coast so we can have some wild Georgia shrimp. It is THE best!!!

Thanks for any and all replies!

You can find wild Georgia Shrimp in the larger super markets in Savannah. I know that the Piggly Wiggly carries them. I am not sure just when the season ends. Maybe someone else can tell you.

I would come up 204, when it becomes Abercorn, stay on it until you are a couple of blocks north of Victory Drive. There is an excellent Seafood market on your left called Russo's. I would think that the grocery store on Tybee would also have them if they are available when you get here.

There are also several places you can buy fresh shrimp on Tybee. The first place is at Lazaretto Creek where the shrimp boats dock. You'll see it when you cross the bridge to Tybee, on the right. There's also a seafood shop at the corner of Butler Ave. and N. Campbell Ave. (at the first traffic light on Tybee). They usually have local shrimp at the IGA grocery store there on Tybee too.

Unless you get them on Wilmington Island or Tybee, make sure you get them packed in ice for the rest of the way to Tybee. They spoil really fast.

Thanks so much, everybody!

Any restaurant recommendations for Saturday? Creative local seafood, decent wine list.

My favorite seafood place on Tybee is probably AJ's Dockside. Not sure what their wine selection is, but it's probably adequate. If the weather is nice you can sit out on the dock over the back river. Call and make a reservation for sunset. I always take out of town guests there.

Sundae Cafe is a small upscale place in a strip mall at the corner of of Jones and Butler. I haven't actually eaten there. There was a wait so we went someplace else. Haven't thought to try it again. Marlin Monroes is the sister restaurant to Fannie's on the Beach, which I love. It's slightly more upscale than Fannies and I've heard it's good. It's also on the beach.

The Hunter House would be fun. It's in an old B&B near the south end of the island. Call for info and reservations. I imagine their wine list might be better than average - but that's a guess. The food and atmosphere are great.

I may be forgetting something. So don't be afraid to ask someone who lives out there, they'll tell you. All of these places have websites and reviews, so you can figure out what you want.

Love's Seafood
This restaurant is a gorgeous location and sits right beside the Ogeechee River at US 17 South
not far from I-95. Enjoy the view. Do not be in a hurry; This is not fast food........
One of the oldest seafood restaurants in the area.

When we go to Tybee: North Beach Grill In Fort Screven at the Tybee lighthouse
live music and beach seating atmosphere here is very relaxed
A strong Caribbean influence runs through much of the menu Eclectric

Thanks so much!!! Macelwee's menu looked great online, but AJ's & Marlin Monroe's were the recommendations from our rental agent as well.
Love's looks awesome, maybe we can go there next trip. ( , I forgot it was the Florida/Georgia game weekend.)
