Savannah Area Questions?
I will soon be moving to the Savannah area since I accepted a job with a company at the airport. I was hoping that I could get some help with choosing the right area to rent in (until I have the option to buy again).
A little about me. I am a single guy who enjoys working on my toys (I am a mechanic by trade), racing and riding motorcycles (I can't wait to try out Roebling Raceway), biking (both mountain and road), I'm not into the bar or club scene. I prefer to have some room around me (I'm not fond of the stacked on top of each other apartments) and would really like to have a garage with the rental place.
I have been looking at Pooler, Rincon, Bloomingdale and Hardeeville, SC. Basically any of the areas within a half hour drive from the airport. Am I missing any areas? Are there any areas of the mentioned cities to avoid? Are there any sites that are useful for locating rentals (houses prefered) in these areas (I've been looking, but have not found much except for the link to the Savannah paper)?
Also, anyone else here work at the airport?
Thanks for the help,
AT

Thank you Padgett2, I will look at those areas as well.
What about the Chatham city or Wheat Hill areas? Would they be worth looking into?
Thanks again,
AT

Skip Chatham City. It's sort of a low income old apartment complex. I don't know about the Wheat Hill Area.

Wheat Hill is kind of rough too. There are several nice houses for rent in the old part of Garden City, east of Hwy 21. I've been out there recently looking around.

LOL. I've also been out to Roebling Raceway a few times - and the airport!

Thanks for the info everyone.
I'm finding that it's not very easy to find someplace to live when you're still 700 miles away. I think I'll have to ask my relater if they if they can help or if they can put me in touch with their counter parts in Georgia. I also need to contact the company about doing a scouting run or two.
At least I've been able to narrow it down to either Rincon, Pooler, Port Wentworth or Garden City with the help of those here. I'm glad I found this site. It's been rather helpful so far.

hello
I would suggest contacting some of the real estate companies in those areas. They can email you rental list to give you ideas of where to live. There are apartments that are nice and houses that are being rented on the same exits as the airport. Pooler would definately be a closer commute for you.

I was 1000 miles away when I decided to make the move.
Never even heard of Wilmington Island.
I had a few resources to rely on.
And Padgett was one of them.
And now I'm here, and loving it.
You'll be fine.
