I would take a trip to the main Savannah Police station and see some of the wonderful stuff that they have confiscated from children in some of the Elementary schools. It was an eye opener for me. I hate to be so negative about a place especially about one that is as beautiful as Savannah, but I know that I would want to know the good, the bad and the ugly of a place before I moved there.

Correct. Those of us who LIVE and WORK in Savannah (Florida wasn't Georgia the last time I looked ) know the reality. The murder rate is three (3) times that of any other city it's size. I work in the historic district. Security escorts us out of the building and to the parking lot each evening for our safety. It's a company requirement because of the crime around here.
Yes, Savannah has topical beauty. But her core is rotten. People should be aware of what they are moving in to. (Not to mention all of the college students and the ecclectic crowds that now call Savannah home.) We boast huge numbers of gay and lesbians and the locals hate it. It's the Sunday gossip at church, every Sunday, without fail. But research is the key before moving ANYWHERE.

Thanks to everybody that has wished me luck and who knows, I could be the one teacher that changes a students life forever.
The college students that call Savannah home is what I am looking for, as I will be graduating from college in May.
People that do not share the same sexual orientation as I do (gays and lesbians) don't bother me at all. To each is own I guess.
I grew up 20 minutes east of Gary, Indiana. I'm not saying that crime doesn't scare me because it definately does...but I'm sure I will not see much worse than what I grew up with.
My Mom teaches at a rural school in Indiana. It is a farm school, meaning all whites and don't even think about being black if you want to survive there. A student brought a knife to school and the highschoolers all have shot guns in their pickup trucks. Not a big deal, these kids need as much love as the rest.
Once again, thank you everybody for your support and the words of encouragment. I can now call Savannah my home!

It really is a great city, despite the naysayers. I will definitely look forward to showing you some of my favorite hangouts and going the beach with you early this fall. What a treat.
Congrats and welcome, from a 5th generation native, soon to return home.

Keep in mind that Savannah is the highest for murder PER CAPITA ~ you do know what that means, correct? If not, I'd be happy to break it down for you. No getting around the facts. We're 3 x higher for murder than any other city it's size / per person - in the U.S. Sorry that bothers you, but it's true. And if it doesn't sound too bad to you, come on down - bring the family and walk the streets and the squares. See if you change your mind. Post a reply after you've done that.

Murder 236 - 207 It's not 3 times the rate per person the numbers clearly show that. It's not on any of the lists as the highest in the nation. Look at the www.fbi.gov website for details.

That's what I thought too. I did a thorough search last night and could find nothing to support that claim. Thanks.

If you have been on a job interview in Savannah recently for an administrative or general office type of job, please share your experience with us.
My #1 complaint about Savannah is the job market. I am not interested in debating crime statistics and lifestyle issues.
