Savannahans perceptions of Augusta
I am a little curious to know what the overall opionion is of most people in the Savannah metro area of Augusta. Is it positive or negative? and Why? Certainly most people know of Augusta due to The Masters, but is there anything else you associate with Augusta. Have you ever thought of a weekend trip to Augusta? Why or why not? There have been suggestions that Augusta should market itself to people outside the region with a TV ad campaign, similar to what Chattanooga has done. knowing what the current perceptioons ppl have of Augusta would be very helpful. Be honest.. if you have a negative or positive opinion of Augusta please explain why. Look forward to the responses.

The only thing most of us down here know about Augusta is that's where the "burn unit" is located.

Totally ambivalent about the place.
I love Savannah...
Why would I wanna leave?
I live full time in a place that others pay good money to vacation in.

I've been to Augusta a number of times, but it's been awhile. Back then, I usually visited friends of the family and did the kinds of things they liked to do, like go shopping. But I'm not much into shopping.
If I went now, I'd probably prowl around downtown and see what there is to see. I'd probably do a little research first to find out what's interesting. Isn't there an old canal there? Then I'd get something to eat, I guess.
But as far as making a special trip... I don't know why one would. It would have to be a part of a larger mission, or something.

I lived up there years ago. Go up to visit Mom when she is in the hospital.
She prefers to go to Doctors there because they are much cheaper than here in Savannah.
If we have time, we stop at Fort Discovery or the Morris Museum downtown. The river side park is a nice quiet place for a walk.
I know a few people that take their children to Fort Discovery periodically.

Other than people who have once lived there, I don't really know of anybody who makes a random trip to Augusta. Most people here don't know much about that area other than the Masters golf tournament.
As mentioned in a previous post about people's perceptions of Georgia, Augusta suffers from a lack of advertising, as do most other cities in Georgia. Plus, the Savannah River Parkway between Savannah and Augusta isn't exactly a fun ride. No quick, easy access.
