Got a drinking buddy at The Islander.
He moved down from N.J., lives on Wilmington, and works at Gulf Stream.
I'll drop an email on him, and find out their HR dept. email addy.

You can go directly to their HR page, but it's a bit indecipherable and a pain to navigate. There's a free-standing job site that only lists what jobs are available.

Job Search Made Simple | SimplyHired I think this is where I've seen Gulfstream listings, for what it's worth.

The high rent - NYers will think it is low rent.
Jobs - eh...I don't know. Don't have personal exp w/ jobs in NY.
Ok - here's what Sav can offer that NY never could:
The lovely flora and fauna.
A beach that is clean and warm.
Southern hospitality! (Can't beat it.) And you'll LOVE the accent. (Unless you hate it. But don't worry, you talk funny to us so we'll just agree to both be laughing on the inside.)
Warmth! Sun! Plants! Grass!
Elbow room when you walk down the street.
The opportunity to own a vehicle.
GA peaches, and I ain't talkin fruit
Do it man, you'll love it!

The good the bad the ugly about Savannah:
Good: Southern hospitality, I'll give you that.
It is a walkable city.
Beautiful historical buildings
Low cost of living compared to big cities
A port town so access to the beach is very good.
The bad/ugly: Hot humid summers, high crime rate for its size, lower payscale, allergies, bugs(eww!!)
How do I know? I used to live in Savannah.

Maybe you need to come back for a visit?
You don't seem to be happy where you are now.
Just sayin', is all.

Especially worthwhile since they are "pure Georgia" job links and I already mentioned in one of my posts I am not going to have a breakdown if it turns out Savannah does not work out for us. Despite what some have written, Augusta and lots of other places look pretty good too.
Unbelievably, today at work I discovered one of my co-workers actually graduated from SCAD there in Savannah! He related to me the story of how they used to trick the parking meters [ evidently run by Nazi meter maids ] which I shall not go into here for fear of being banned by the moderator... I asked him if he would move back to Savannah, money being equal, and he said no because his family is in Missouri, and the crime is too high for him. Of course he was a student there, and not a long-term resident, so I'll take the crime bit with a grain of salt [ while not ignoring the MANY posts about crime in Savannah ]. As a former college student myself, my own outings may have once in a awhile resulted in being places I really ought'nt to have been ...
Well we can certainly visit & I am working on that - I know my daughter will just love it! My wife's from the Philippines & doesn't like extreme heat - I'm from Illinois & can't stand the cold. Go figure. Truthfully I feel like a fish out of water here in Illinois - more likely "this part of Illinois" but jobs are even more limited in So. Illinois. Thanks in large part to our government, job situation is tough on everybody everywhere. Our employer just let 3 people go in my dept. One of them had over 10 years, one had just been here a year. The third had 20 years in.
Like Ellie said in one of her posts, I got the position I'm in now through working other jobs which didn't pay so well. Like a lot of people, I guess. I felt lucky to land a job in the field I know in an area where jobs like mine are scarce. However, at this time I cannot afford to move without first having a decent job. I did it when I was single but the results were very mixed.
Again thanks so much to everyone for taking time to post - and especially to Ellie for taking time to research those links. I have been using Indeed & career builder. Career Builder keeps sending me links to jobs in Illinois via e-mail.
$90,000 is a lot of money but the location doesn't look so hot !! And I already served in the Army so I think I'll pass
Just for comparison, the property taxes where we now live are $4,500.00 per year. And it ain't no mansion... When we receive our tax refund I am going to hire an assessor to re-apraise our home & start the selling process.

Spent eleven and a half miserable years there, and ran like Hell when I got the chance.
