Default St Augustine

I am not sure why everyone keeps telling you to go to St Augustine or Jacksonville. I'm a St Augustine resident and have been for a while. First off - there are NO jobs in St Aug - and I really mean this. Yes, you can get one if you don't mind making 7/8 bux an hour. Everyone knows everyone and as a new comer you may not even get a job at all. Housing is ridiculous - I haven't been able to find a house under 275 (and that is with another 50k required for repairs). I am renting a house that would go for about 600k right now and the houses on either side of me are for sale, one is at 895k the other at 850k - the house i rent is VERY modest but on a great street downtown. You could get a one bedroom run down shack in West Augustine right in front of the train tracks for about 160
Taxes are crazy - at least half your mortgage amount per month - and trying to get insurance on your home is like -- well, hell freezing over. St Augustine is beautiful and amazine and fairly low crime - if you have money in the bank come on down! Jacksonville is much more affordable but I personally find it terribly boring... it is a strange place and I wouldn't live there even if someone purchased a home for me to live in free of charge -- no joke!

My point - St Aug is great to vacation in -- but, you need some cash if you plan on living here.

Someplaces are good places to visit and others are good places to live. Savannah is a good place to visit. The only reason I wouldn't suggest St. Augustine is the economy isn't a vibrant as Jacksonville's economy. St. Augustine is great. We took alot of trips there when I was a kid and I'm taking my daughter there next month. I'd tell some to live in St. Augustine before I'd tell them to do Savannah though.

Charleston is a beautiful city in the low country of South Carolina. Many people compare the 2 areas because of the history and similarities between them. Like how they both are near the coast...buffered by barrier islands, are home to large ports and etc. It's been a heated debate as to which city is the better of the two....it just really comes down to visiting both and then deciding. Personally I give the overall feel of the Charleston area the nod over the Savannah area. Don't get me wrong now...Savannah is a beautiful city, i just think the Charleston Metro has more going for it than the Savannah Metro. They hold a major tennis and golf tournaments, have more concerts and plays and the beaches in the area seems more tranquil and nicer. You should visit there....you'll enjoy yourself.

The reason why Savannah is so bad is the Black people. Not all blacks but the bad ones ruin it for everyone.

Hey, I'm Black, and I found that statement very offensive. Perhaps you may want to go back and touch that up a bit? Sounds like you've had some run-ins with some Blacks that weren't very pleasant. If that's the case, and you've been on this earth more than a couple of days, I employ you to look back at ALL the people who have not been very nice to you, and I assure you, once you do, you'll remember that other races were in the pick too.

However, still, I'm pleased that you posted such an ignorant statement, because it only justified WHY I moved down here from Chicago five months ago to write a film about RACISIM IN THE SOUTH!

Thanks Jorhyne!

PEACE!

I moved down here from Chicago five months ago to write a film about RACISIM IN THE SOUTH!

You could have save yourself a trip and strayed in Chicago and made a film about RACISM IN THE SOUTHSIDE OF CHICAGO!

You want to experience pure racism?
Follow a WHITE man walking through a BLACK "community", aka "hood".

I once got lost in Savannah. I saw many, what once were, beautiful old homes. I also was given a dirty "What you want, White boy?" look from every black person that saw us.

My sister, who lives in RINCON said that no White person ever goes into that area of Savannah.

What's funny about that comment is: MOST BLACKS ARE AFFRAID OF WHITES.

Betcha' didn't know that did ya?

And for those of you who have no clue what I mean by this, let my comment cascade through your brain for a bit...or perhaps go rent the "Root's" series, because this venue hardly gives one enought room/time to explain it all.

As far as documenting racism on the southside of Chicago? I've lived there for 36 years, and the most racism I've seen amongst blacks was racism withing their own communities. BLACK ON BLACK RACISM.

PEACE!

Let's don't confuse racism with criminal activity.

When a community's population is majority black, it will have more black criminals.

When a community's population is majority white, it will have more white criminals.

Savannah is more that 50% black in the city limits. That is also where the majority of crimes occur. Some of the older sections are almost 100% black. To ignore this fact when talking about crime in Savannah is to ignore the obvious. Why this is so is one of our on-going problems.

The rest of the population is made of of whites, latinos, hispanics, asians (including vietnamese,) all responsible for some crime.
