Default Rode through the Savannah River Landing site today........

The River Walk looks close to being finished in the next few months. The only work that has been done there so far is what has been paid for by the taxpayers. I am guessing we paid for the riverwalk and the streets, right?

Anyway, nothing has gone vertical there yet. I heard PF Changs signed on and a few retail stores but don't know when that is going to be built.

It could turn out great, but with the present housing situation, I worry that they will have a real problem filling up the condos/apartments. And if the people don't move in, the businesses won't manage well either.

At this point....it could be a boom or a great big bust. Let's hope for the best.

I'm wondering if the developer, Ambling Co., is going to build anything in this economy.

Also, I was wondering about Hitch village and the streets that are supposed to continue through that area into the development? What are the plans for Hitch Village? A lot of those apartments are boarded up.

WOW, I just googled it and it sounds like that's going to be neat! I couldn't find out on their website how much the houses are going to be, although I'm sure they will be quite expensive! Who do you think will buy there?

I've always wondered about the wisdom of building that much on what is basically a filled in muck hole. I can't imagine sinking pilings all the way down to bedrock in that location for residential buildings.

Do we have bedrock? LOL

My guess was that the city needed a place to dump all of the dirt from the excavation for the Whitaker St. underground garage and figured this would be a way to make money on the deal.

georgiaatheart is on a distinguished road
We have mixed development areas in Denver that are hugely successful and I wish Savannah the best of luck. When we left Savvanah nearly 10 years ago, traffic was terrible in the hidtoric area. This venture will surely bring more congestion. How does the city plan to deal with it?
