Savannah politics
How would you describe them. Liberal/Democrat, Conservative/Republican, a mix of both?

It's a mix.
You have to understand a bit about politics in the past to understand how it is now. For a long time the Democratic Machine had an unbelievable hold on Savannah Politics and for the most part, it was as crooked as a snake. Crime and corruption were everywhere. The only opposition was the Republicans. And that's the way it was until fairly recently. Many voted Republican, even though the basic ideals were more liberal, simply as the only way to correct a long time problem. Today, the old Democrats with their shoddy way of running the city and county are dead. Unfortunately, some of their ideals linger on. Crooks seem to inherit a certain way of thinking. Many of our "Republican" officials think and act much more liberally than the "liberal" Democrats. Today's Democrats are an entirely different group than they used to be. We have a black mayor and the majority of the council is black. But for the life of me, I couldn't tell you if they were liberal or conservative or what party they belong to. People tend to vote for the person.
Soooo, you can call it a Mix and pretty much be correct.
I think that today, you would find many that vote one way locally, but another in State and National politics.

The city is majority D, majority black in representation. The county is basically R, majority white in representation. Some dinosaurs still linger (Likakis, majority of city council).

Depends on where you drink, errr, hang out.
I only know day to day people.
Mostly C/R.
A very few L/D.
I can't speak about the governmental part.
I ain't been here long enough, and I don't really care anyway.

I'm acquainted with a few in both City and County government. They all give me the creeps.
Otherwise, Padgett is spot-on.

A mix, the Dixiecrat is alive and well, but tends not to reveal its true color to outsiders.
Keeping the pork rolling in is a mainstay of Savannah politics
but the social liberal national party makes them hold their noses and vote republican. the religious zealots are solidly republican.
