Default Moving to Sylvania, GA

Would love have info not found on most websites like... How are the schools really doing? What ISP's are available? Is DSL available? What wireless carriers service the area? What is the job scene really like? Any thing fun for teenagers? I've read all the "chamber of commerce" type stuff and I'd like to hear from people who've actually lived in the area.

Sylvania is still quite quaint, and "undeveloped". Statesboro and Savannah will be your "big" towns.

Planters Telephone (based in Screven County) will likely be your DSL provider: Planters Telephone Cooperative.

I'm in Effingham County, and the crazy magic carpet of subdivisions we have here has not yet taken off in your direction (more or less).

It seems to me that you'll have to entertain yourself in Sylvania to a large degree. I think you'll get a good feeling for super small town living in Sylvania.

Cheers and all the best!

Sylvania is an hour to Savannah and an hour to Augusta
Medical is cheaper in Augusta (Medical College Of Ga)
Housing is cheap and very available
The schools up there are better than most in south GA
Last year the High School made the US News as a Bronze, but not this year.
There are some great teachers

Hunting and fishing is the main source of entertainment as there is an abundance of timberlands. If your Kids are outdoorsy they will love it.
"Tourism" in the area centers on such outdoor activities
Go to "Nets" for dinner! If you can find it or "Doe Does"
DSL is available everywhere, even in the most remote areas (and it is a better service than I have)

It is a great place to get away. One could live there and never see a neighbor. One could be a well connected hermit.

Thanks very much to all for the info and links. I'm looking forward to getting down there and "discovering" all kinds of new places and people. Probably happen in July. Thanks again.
