beaches near Isle of Hope
My family and I are moving to Isle of Hope area and I want to know where the nearest beach is to take my children to. What does anyone think about the Isle of Hope Elem. School? I have three small kids that will be going there 09-10 year. What else is there to do in that area for my husband and I and also our children?

Tybee Beach would be the main beach nearest Isle of Hope. There's little "to do" in the area. It's residential. A shopping center with a good supermarket, CVS pharmacy, several restaurants and take outs. Several churches, Boy and Girl Scout troops, some organized sports, swimming pool, but other than that, it's just a quiet residential place that's family oriented.
Isle of Hope school seems to be quite good. It's in a good location on the IOH. Plenty of playground space.

Butterbean Beach is a manmade beach near the boat ramp at Skidaway Narrows. There are a few picnic tables and some trees. It's one of several places around the area known as the "Redneck Riviera". I think it's kind of funky and sometimes smells of dead fish.

Tybee Island is the nearest beach. I live in IOH and have two young children. It is the best neighborhood in the Savannah area in my opinion.
The elementary school is very good and rated one of the best in Savannah.
There is a marina in the neighborhood if you like boating or kayaking. Plenty for the kids to do and if you let roam the neighborhood they will make plenty of friends.
Great place for walking and biking. The Savannah area has plenty of restaurants and you should be able to find plenty to do every weekend with your family.

FFG3 - We are moving to Tabby Village (new - only three homes in there right now). My kids do love Tybee Island and think it is great - I do not want to take them somewhere where it smells like dead fish. Where is a great place for walking and biking, at the marina or just on the streets there? Is Isle of hope one big neighborhood, I have heard other people call it a neighborhood?

Tabby Village...hmmmmm not much there right now.
It's going to be hard to say how biking and walking around Tabby Village will be. It won't be a good idea to allow the young children to ride or walk on Norwood Avenue, and that's the only way you would be able to get to the Isle of Hope. Or any where else. The Isle of Hope is about 2 miles away. IOH is just one residential neighborhood. There's a lot of things NEAR Isle of Hope, or as the realtors say, "The Isle of Hope area", but on the island itself, just houses and the marina. The marina is not available for play time either.
I hope things work out well for you with your new home. With the housing market the way it is, it's going to be a while before you have many neighbors. And THAT can be a very good thing.
