Default Visiting Soon - possible relocation

Hello -
I will be traveling to coastal GA soon. The purpose of my trip is to check out this area as a possible place to relocate to. I currently reside in Massachusetts and I hate the winter. I also cannot find work here. I would like to live in a small town - but close enough to a small city (Savannah or Brunswick) Just looking for a fresh start in a nice area. Have a Bachelor's degree and a strong work ethic.

Any suggestions as to locations to consider or job information would be welcomed.

Thank you.

Thanks Ellie --
I've been reading some real interesting posts on the "bored!" Looking forward to visiting. Any places that I should absolutely not miss and/or places to avoid? (traveling alone)

I got friends that moved down from Mass. a while back.
Drop me a DM, I could put you in touch.

Once you've sampled Savannah...
You're gonna hate Mass. even more.

Don't miss...
River St.
Historic District.
Tybee Island.

Just my 26cents worth, is all.

(I don't know what we did for fun before Al came along)

In light of that, Warmerdaze, when you're here you might just want to spend a day or two just walking around the historic district and maybe spend an afternoon out at Tybee, our local beach. As far as getting around, use the same street smarts you'd use in a big city - I'm guessing you've spent time in Boston - and know how to keep an eye out for trouble.

Then drive on down to Darien, which is 60 miles south of there and only 20 miles north of Brunswick. You can see most of both towns in about a day. There's some interesting history down that way but the landscape is nowhere nearly as pretty as what I've seen in Mass. Culturally, it might be a bit of a shock, too. You can judge for yourself on that.

If you want to check out wealthier areas down there, you can ride out to St. Simon's Island or down to Jekyll Island for another nice beach walk.

Let us know if you have more specific questions.

We're allowed to have fun, ain't we?

Landscape is not at all like Mass. or upstate NY.
No mountains.
No great forests.
It's beautiful up there, but it sure gets cold, and snowy.

Depending on where you're coming from, the culture shock might not be bad at all.
Pittsfield, Stockbridge?
You won't feel much.
Boston?
Prolly some.
But you'll live.

Hey thanks JP Al -- I do appreciate your 26 cents worth!! And yes, been to Boston plenty and do have "street smarts." I will definately check out those areas. How is the job market there? We seem to be particularly hard-hit up here in MA. There are just no jobs....

Thanks Al & Ellie. : ) Looking forward to seeing a new part of the country.

How accepting are folks around there of "northerners?" I'd imagine that you'd be able to tell pretty quickly that I'm not a local from my boston accent....! Just wondering.....

The job market's about the same as anywhere. Really depends on what you can do. In real life, no one really cares where you're from if you're cool. Very simple
