I don't think we ever stopped dancing like that down here. That's what we did at the Senior prom decades ago. The older folks are still doing it at their socials. But we sure wouldn't consider it something that we got from Detroit. That would be blasphemy

I don't know if we still have an Arthur Murray studio here, but it would be the place to learn. I doubt if any of the dance halls (?) would have the kind of music for that type of dance.

It sounds like just another dance fad to me. I did a google on it and it even mentioned dancing "cheek to cheek." Horrors!!

"...and it even mentioned dancing "cheek to cheek."

And that sounds like the way I slow dance.
Always have, always will.

Default Detroit Ballroom In GA

Detroit ballroom dancing is alive and well in Georgia. There is a very vibrant detroit ballroom dance community here in the Atlanta area, also in the Macon/Middle Georgia/Warner Robins area. You may find information on dance events from facebook pages of companies that teach detroit ballroom. Here is a few names of companies that I am familiar with, look them up on facebook

Soul2Sole Dance Synergy, LLC
1 Step Above
Khicks Contemporary Ballroom Urban Style
Right Steppers
Macon Middle Ga Dance Society
Cheek II Cheek Dance Productions

There is also a huge dance event surrounding urban ballroom dancing that takes place in Feb. It's called the Legacy Ball. The website is Atlanta Ballroom Dancing | Legacy Ball Atlanta

Hope that helps a little in your quest.

Since rep points are really important to you, this for the trolls who know and care nothing about the topic but speak anyway.

Detroit Style Ballroom - YouTube

It hearkens back to an earlier era of ballroom dance with subtle mutations and adaptations adopted by participants in various urban areas across America, resulting in regional "styles".

Not "going" anywhere with it but augmenting what the OP is after. Not understanding your response either. Problem with the topic or what?
