What about is I were to commute from Frisco to Downtown dallas and leave early in the morning, say 6:30AM. Do you think it would still be that bad? What time would I have to leave in the afternoon to avoid traffic?

It can be an hour, hour and a half drive when traffic is at its worst. It is about 40 minutes when the highways are normal. Traffic is usually from 7-9 and 4-7. I think the afternoon traffic is worse. Its really just day to day, some days you might be able to zip on home, but others its bumper to bumper.

Savannah and job tips
I'll be quick. Being born and raised in Savannah I always thought I'd leave and never come back. Well, after living in NYC, Atlanta, LA and Nashville, my husband and I chose to come back here. The quality of life is fantastic and as long as you don't assume you're living in Mayberry (lock your doors, etc) you should be good. We've lived in midtown, Gordonston, and now out on the islands and we've enjoyed them all.
As far as jobs go, obviously craigslist.com but I would all consider the creativecoast.com .
I am a Realtor so feel free to ask me about neighborhoods or rentals/buys. Also, have a fellow realtor/friend who lives in Bluffton and drives in to Thunderbolt and it takes him about a 1/2 hour.
Hope this helps!

I think what is likely to happen, is that we will live in Savannah and I will commute to Bluffton, sometimes Beaufort, for school.
I know there is much more to live, see and do in Savannah than the historic district, but that being said, that is where we would like to find an apartment. Any suggestions about a general area or grid of streets to stay within? Thanks.

So, I'm looking into apartments in the historic district...can someone explain the streets and lanes thing? I was trying to do a Google street view of an apartment on a lane and it wouldn't go there, but does go down the streets? I think I read that the lanes were service ways and the actual homes were on the streets...so if an address is on a lane is it most likely a carriage house, etc.? Thanks for your help.

A lane is just the Savannah name for alley. Yes, probably a carriage house.

A young professional?
Not a proof reader, or editor, I hope?

If you are looking to move to Savannah, I would strongly recommend moving outside of Savannah. Somewhere in Bryan or Effingham County. You will still have to deal with traffic and a commute. I live in Effingham and it took me about 45 min to an hour to drive to Savannah. But you will feel alot safer and living is a bit cheaper. Plus both have very good schools, so if you decided to have children you wont have to move again.
