Pros/Cons Savannah Beach Area
Hi - - I am a college student from the midwest graduating soon. I am looking into the Savannah beach area to possibly move to. What are some pros and cons of the beach life/housing/lifestyle/expensive? Thanks for you help and enjoy the summer.

And if you are going to need employment, you are probably going to have to drive into Savannah to find it. Tybee is quite small.
Lifestyle is casual.

Honestly, I wouldn't dare recommend you moving to Tybee Island unless you have money to spare. Its CERTAINLY no Miami Beach by any means, but the prices on that island are majorly inflated. If you're going to move to the area, you'll more than likely be working in Savannah. If you want to be close to a beach and live cheaply while also being close to work, move in to town.
Downtown Savannah has several different neighborhoods (particularly the Victorian District) where there are houses up for rent, or where you can find a good roomate. Something I have first hand experience in. Go this route and you'll be living cheaply and efficiently all while being within a close 20-25 minute drive to the beach. ..and who knows, you might actually end up liking downtown Savannah more than the beach! Ya never know!

You're right. All of Savannah is within a short drive of the beach.
As much as I love it out there, I'd rather live in a central location for day to day convenience and make an occasional drive out to Tybee to get my fix of island life as opposed to having to do it twice a day just to get by.
In other words, there are not a lot of real jobs out on Tybee.

I'd agree with Ellie on this one. I'd also add that the road into the beach is perilous lately - well, the drivers are reckless is perhaps the fairer summary. One road in and one road out is a real pain.

Agreed.
The road is decent, the drivers suck.

I still believe that road should be widened and elevated though. Spring tides & flooding anyone?
As Al would say, just my 26 cents is all.
Now, back to the subject at hand...
