Good areas in Savannah
Hello, We are thinking about moving to Savannah. Some comments about crime are quite a bit shocking. We want to live in a safe neighborhood. Do they exist? Where are they in Savannah? Or would we need to find a place outside of Savannah to be safe? We are looking to buy a 2-3 bedroom house.
Thanks for your advice. Sylvia

Nothing is safe. Everything is shocking. All Savannahians wear body armor.
And if you don't get my attempt at humor, maybe you should read more threads. There are many, many about good neighborhoods in Savannah.
Or--better idea. Maybe you should consider visiting for an extended period of time before planning to move here. Rent something for a year and get to know the city first-hand before deciding to buy.

Savannah is much more and much larger than the Historic District. If you are really interested in the City, take time to look at the other 99.99% of it. And most of it has a very low crime rate.
If you were to go "outside of Savannah" you would be in the swamps, woods and abandoned farmlands. Either that or in one of the small towns that surround Savannah, like Thunderbolt, Garden City, Rincon and Pooler.
Just make sure you have air conditioning.

You forgot to say that we all carry guns.
Or a piece of rebar at the least.
Oh, you were just kidding?
I still, and always will, vote for T'bolt and East.
But that's just me.

Savannahians have failed to lose their sense of humor as you can see =)
I agree with all stated above. Check Savannah out in person (and not just the historic district). There are other great parts of town. The Islands are certainly up there on my list as well as Al's. (Mainly Wilmington, Whitemarsh...Tybee is alright, but a little further out and a bit overpriced IMO)
Other good areas in town are the Ardsley Park neighborhood. The Victorian District to the south of the historic district is also up and coming, but be a bit more careful on which part of the Victorian district you choose. (Again, as stated above, start out renting first and get a feel for Savannah)
Finally, Savannah's most growth is occuring to it's south and west; Richmond Hill in neighboring Bryan county, Pooler, in the western part of Chatham county, then there is Rincon and Springfield, in Effingham county.
Do your research on these places. Come and visit. Explore a bit. Good luck and hope you become a fellow Savannahian like the rest of us!

That's right, if gated communities are your thing.

The last time I checked, most of the communities on the Islands were gated or the same type of suburb like developments, my friends.

HUH?
MOST?
Big difference between "Gated Communities" and "Suburban Developments".
Instead of checking, just take a drive down Walthour and see for yourself.
