Default Things to Do

My husband and I moved to the Pooler area from Atlanta in May. I am slowly settling in to the slower pace down here, but I was wondering if anyone could give me some good ideas of things to do in the Savannah area. We have explored River Street and Forsyth Park as well as driven around to explore some of the smaller squares. I am used to being close to big cities since I have lived near Atlanta, Honolulu, and New York City-- cities where there is always something new to do. We like to spend time outdoors and downtown. Any suggestions would be great!!

There's usually plenty going on in Savannah, far more than I can manage most of the time. While you won't find the range or diversity you would in a big city, you'll still find enough to keep you entertained, and perhaps pleasantly surprised. Most events are listed in one or both of these locations:

I've lived in major cities my entire life and there is more than enough to do here. I'd suggest subscriptions to The South or Savannah Mag. You also may want to look at the various Savannah groups on Facebook. There are several that are constantly posting info on events.

I recently visited Fort Jackson off Island Expressway. It was interesting and had a great view of downtown Savannah. They also have a mini skit and a real life cannon shooting. A wide range of artifacts on display.

Fort Jackson is ran by volunteers and receive NO Federal Funding. If you are into the history of the area and want to help support the local historic site stop by Fort Jackson for a visit.
