High Schools in Savannah
I'm looking to see what are the best public high schools in Savannah & surrounding areas. Please give reasons why you feel that one particular high school is superior to another.
Also, what neighborhoods are the best in and around Savannah?
Your input is greatly appreciated.

Savannah Arts Academy is the best public high school by far. The best private is County Day. It's a dropoff from there.
Best neighborhoods?
Could be any. Do you want historic, water, private, gated, close to work. I live on the South Side and love it. 5 minutes to Oglethorpe mall. 2 minutes to the dock. 15 minutes to work.
Do you want a new house or historic?

At the present time, there is a lot of discussion about reassigning school districts. We won't know the outcome of this until next year. A bad school this year might be great later. It's a work in progess and the hope is that changing things around will raise the standards in all schools.
The chances are that if you choose a good neighborhood, the high school will reflect the interest of the parents. A school is usually, but not always, a reflection on the involvement and interest of the parents in their students. If most of the parents don't care, the students usually don't either.
One thing to watch for..... if you pick a home that is on a border line between two districts, you may experience changing back and forth.

How is Savannah Christian Prep? It's a big school - almost 1700.
Thanks!

I would rank it second, behind SCD, as far as private schools go
Great if you're a fundamentalist

That's another choice.....the Catholic Schools. Benedictine (BC) for boys and St. Vincents for the girls. Both have a good records for turning out excellent students. Again, it's what a child gets at home that really decides if they get the education that they should.
There's a plan now about converting the Middle School building out on Whitemarsh (Wilmington)Island into a High School to serve that area. This should be a good thing if the parental involvement in the Elementary Schools in the area is any indication. If this becomes a reality, it's a choice that you might consider looking at.
