I was told that Martin Luther King walked down West Broad street and so it was later renamed M L King blvd. -Is that true?

Yeah...
And that's why there is MLK Blvd. in San Diego.
And most other cities I've been in.
He was a great man, is all.

My sister and I are planning a trip to Savannah in March in hopes to get leads on housing and jobs. We would like info on where we as two "women of color" should and should not look for decent affordable housing.

"Women of color" should look the same places everyone else should. And there are plenty of threads on this site to cover desirable and non-desirable parts of town. Why would you separate yourself that way? It's not necessary.

man i hope to god you don't have to be told where to NOT look for a place to live because you are a woman of color. granted people like to fill like they fit in, but please tell me that in 2009 people of color don't need to find an "acceptable" neighborhood. I don't live there as you can see but i'm looking to move to GA this next year and i'm look into the savannah area, i hope i don't need to find an acceptable area because i'm a white woman. i welcome living in a diverse area.

I know a good amount of history about Savannah, I just do not know too much about black history. I did not know about the African American heritage tour. I will be looking that up. Thank you for the information.

Take a trip--March--April--just explore the Thunderbolt area---Ellie and others can give you the complete itinerary. Savannah is a treasure trove of history and culture.

Loved living on the Islands. Hope to do that again.

Take

You gotta take a side trip to ???Yamacraw--South Carolina--the island that has been historically African American--the culture--the baskets, the food the people---I didn't do that but really plan to do it soon.

There are artisans working in renovated historic buildings--can't say where at present--someone knows---creativity flourishes in Savannah, GA. 'Beautiful and Mysterious'--like the Spanish Moss.

Many of the coastal islands in South Carolina were historically African American. Were you referring to Daufuskie? (The one between Hilton Head and Tybee)
