I will be visiting the Savannah area this summer in preparation for upcoming retirement! I am an active, single, 48 year old and am looking for a neighborhood where cars are an option. I would like something with these characteristics:
historic charm
artsy
within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and markets
condo or small house
pet friendly
45 minutes or less from beach
Any advice on places to investigate -inside or near Savannah - would be wonderful!

Your wish list just about excludes everywhere except the downtown Historic District. That would be a good place to start. Look for a condo or apartment. Small houses are very scarce in that area.
