So I need advice from some Savannah natives. I live in Savannah, about 3 years now, and i've been looking for some good day to day places to eat. I'm not talking about the upscale classy money makers like Paula Dean. I'm talking about these awesome sit down and eat hole in the wall places you never hear about, like the kind you see in shows on Food Network and Travel Channel. Savannah is an old city, there has to be a few somewhere. Red Chimney over in Garden City on 21 is a great place for me to get some BBQ, but i'm looking for more than this. I don't care what it is, Mexican, southern, seafood, asian, what else does Savannah have to offer as far as great food for the everyday person that lives here? You always hear about these locally owned businesses that have such awesome and amazing meals, but I haven't found much :-(

Walls BBQ is good (though they are closed until next month so I hear). Also, Blowin' Smoke is good for BBQ as well. Other than that, I go to Coach's Corner for American and to watch the game. Wasabi's is a good place for Japanese and Sushi Zen has the best sushi in Savannah.

I'm also partial to Sakura, Carlitos, Desposito's, Mrs. Wilkes, Sweet Potatoes, Crystal Beer Parlor, Saigon Flavors, Taste of India, Johnnie Harris, and even Cary Hilliards, if you want to know the truth. There are so-o-o many places we locals dine, that it's hard to make a comprehensive list. Some are excellent, others are just solid contenders for comfort food. So, to each his/her own, but there's plenty of good food to eat around here.

Yes! We ate there while on vacation and truly loved it. The food and the concept.
