This may sound strange:
I only take my wallet with me when I go shopping, i.e. once a week or fortnight. When I do I put it into the right-hand back pocket of my jeans.
Now, the last time I went shopping about two weeks ago I noticed a pain at the spot where my wallet was. The next morning I looked in the mirror and saw an irritated skin area. I didn't think of it much, it gradually turned into brown skin and I forgot about it.
Yesterday I went shopping again and in the evening it hurt more than the last time and when I looked in the mirror, it looked like a burn mark at exactly the same region at the lower part of my buttock. It is an area of about 1 by 2.5 inches.
So I was thinking. could one of the coins in my wallet be radioactively contaminated? Sounds crazy, I know, but I can't think of anything else. I have no such marks anywhere else.
Is there a way to detect radioactivity without buying a Geiger counter? I would like to test those coins and bills.
Hmmmm. Call your local police department and ask if they have one. In this day and age it's probably likely if you live in a city of any size.
A good test would be to remove the suspect items.
Does the wallet smell funny? Long term exposure to some substances will do that. Soap is one. Gasoline, etc will also. Has anything spilled on it? Have you cleaned it?
You are right, it does sound strange. I suppose a chemist might have a dosimeter badge or two, but you could also lay an unexposed sheet or roll of film near the stuff, then look for fogging when it was developed. Or you could make a cloud chamber using dry ice. If you are allergic to money, send it to me.
Much more likely, somehow a hard object in the wallet got dragged along the skin (even through cloth) and slightly abraded it or broke weak capillaries underneath the surface. What you describe is very similar to the angel wings I had after one massage treatment where a special tool was used to stimulate the blood vessels.
You can test this out- oil a section of skin on the side of your leg with vegetable or massage oil, then pull hard across it (in a small area) a couple of times with the edge of a coin. The skin won't break, but the capillaries underneath will break and show red, then brown. Sitting on the wallet and moving around may do something similar to you.
Thanks for your replies. Hm, I have just taken a photo of the mark (was not that easy ), maybe you are right and it is the product of mechanical wear. But my jeans are not tight, nor did I sit on my walled, not even for a minute. Apart from that I have always worn my wallet like that, for decades, never had any problems.
Surely your coins have changed and so unless you have had many coins that were radioactive, it is unlikely to be coins.
If however, you have the same coins since the last time you went out, then try changing the contents or placing the contents in another pocket to see if the same thing happens somewhere else, or goes away completely. Maybe even dont wear your wallet in that pocket for one or two days and see if that changes things.
There are distinct striations, which tends to rule out radiation or contact dermatitis. You may have rubbed up against something without realizing it. Something in a car seat, or a tight exit from the car, etc.. Some meds and vitamins can make you more prone to stuff like this.

Thanks, I prefer that to radioactive causes
No idea where it comes from, though. My clothes are wide, have not entered a car since December, don't take any medications or vitamin supplements. Well, I hope it will go away soon and not return
