Kinda cool story here as they discovered an ancient greek shipwreck off the central italian coast and so part of the stash they uncovered on it was an chest containing tablets of greek medicine to which dna analyses showed that they were made up of carrot, parsley, cabbage, celery, alfalfa and wild onion

Makes me wonder if they had manufactured suicide pills since they always used deadly hemlock to kill or assassinate people back then

Default Eat your veggies!

The pills match prescriptions described by early physicians —a dream come true for historians. “It is the first proof that the ancient texts can be trusted,” Touwaide says. Drug companies may want to take note too. “There may be herbal combinations in these pills that no one’s tested,”

I guess they couldn't write legible prescriptions 2000 years ago either!
We have been looking for a pill to replace eating our veggies... the Greeks had a pill for it! After 2,000 and twenty years, I would find it hard to swallow.

That's a pretty bold assertion.

Genetic engineering has been going on for as long as humans have cultivated the land. For example, "natural, wild" carrots used to be purple. Perhaps these vegetables contained compounds that are not found in todays varieties, or not in such abundance.

Or, perhaps, the soil was more nutrient rich....or not as polluted. Both of which would affect the "quality" of the vegetable.

Spot on K-Luv, as i couldn't agree with you more here as i've researched and read before about how fruit was very tart during the classical times in Greece and the Levant although i wouldn't discount all vege's and fruit today as many still have high amounts of polyphenols like blueberries, grapes, broccoli, red cabbage etc.

No need to discount them. I read a sign at a local health-food store I used to frequent that said something to the effect of It is better to eat fruits and vegetables that are treated with pesticides than to eat none at all.

Keep in mind that fruits contain seeds, vegetables do not. Tomatoes, eggplants, avocados, beets, acorns, and peppers are fruits-to name a few.
