So I love technology although I am not highly proficient in a lot of things but I was wondering what is the next big thing to break in technology?

Fiber to the wifi. Or in the case of Clearwire/Sprint, fiber to the WiMax.

You took the words right out of my mouth or, in this case, fingertips - WiMax it is.

Also while not bleeding edge - blown fiber.

Um, thanks. And for those folks like myself who are not educated in this field could you break it down in laymans terms?

An off-grid home that has all the conveniences would be a real breakthrough.

Flexible screens. They are able to be rolled up for transport and pull them out side to side like a scroll to use them. Probably the best new piece of hardware that is on the horizon.

Also there is a touch monitor and programming that was demonstrated a while back (year or two). In the demonstration the guy used two pointer fingers and was going through photo's. He would have his fingers, pull them apart to zoom in, push them together to zoom out, was able to drag with one finger for one item, drag another item with with the other finger. Rotate items, it was really neato.
