It takes a lot of BS to claim EISA mandated CFL, and stupidity to believe others' making the claim. Where to turn? Go to your local store. You will find incandescent and halogen bulbs that meet the criteria... not just LEDs and CFLs.

BS? More like commonsense, but you certainly are wedded to your position. Must be tough, being surrounded by so many stupid people.

Common sense and BS aren't interchangeable. Do yourself a favor... keep stocking those incandescent bulbs since they've been banned. That idea and your attitude (or at least, understanding of the reality) is a match made in heaven.

No, I think technology is great if it is a net plus. CFL's are nothing new, the CFL was INVENTED IN 1975.

A supposed energy savings is far outweighed by the addition OF FRICKEN MERCURY INTO SOMETHING AS COMMON AS A FRICKEN BULB. And all of the additional electronics components and manufacturing, probably in countries with terrible environmental standards..............no way this scam is a net plus for the health of this planet:

Compact Fluorescent Bulbs Draw Quality Complaints - NYTimes.com

Remember when cars went from inaccurate controls to electronics..........that was a huge plus.............this..............fricken scam.

On mercury pollution... what exactly do you think is the greatest contributor to it? Do you avoid offices, malls, shops and restaurants using fluorescent lighting? Do you avoid anything else that might be toxic if broken as opposed to handling it carefully? Are you even aware that even the tiny amount of mercury used in CFLs is being reduced?

Then stop complaining about "complexity" and apparent "newness" of it.

I guess you still believe that is the only way one is exposed to mercury pollution?

Which is something a lot of people want here... get rid of standards and regulations and things will be wonderful. But speaking of "additional electronics", I'm sure you try to get things which have minimal electronics or none at all? Well, how many times must I tell you... the law doesn't mandate CFLs. You can find halogen and incandescent bulbs (if LED is beyond your budget) that meet the regulations.
