I think there is more truth to this article than many people would like to admit. Thinking of a future where there are few jobs for people and we are dependent on our mechanical servants to live scares many.

But, seeing how this country races to the bottom as quickly as it can, I think we will see this stuff sooner rather than later...

Anyone that grew up in the 50's or mostly 60's should remember watching videos at school telling us of our life in the future or life in the year 2000, they were a bit off.

I don't think people realize how cost effective trains really are. I worked in the industry briefly.
GM can move 20 cars from Detroit to Cleveland for less then $500.... (that was the average when I was in the business a few years back).

I am really curious, what will happen to the millions of workers in this country when their jobs are permanently gone?

Not everyone is smart enough to be an engineer/doctor.

What happens when the supply of jobs is drastically short of the supply of working age people?

Some of this is pie ijn the sky stuff like micro power generation. There is just no economy in that. You can buy a generator now but it cost much more than the grid electricity cost. Other things are possible but will be prevented by legislation if too many jobs are threatened. That is what killed off the modular factory made housing industry.
