ow would you do it? Consider animal and nature activists as well as the many many lives currently at stake. There is no way to fight it any more efficiently than how we are doing it now without killing animals and potentially permanently damaging the environment. The politics alone deter more efficient methods.
These fires, while terrible, are also helpful to the environment. Mother nature prefers a kind of phoenix approach. Of course I am not saying we shouldn't try to put them out as fast as humanly possible, but all is not lost.

One of the issues is that Mother Natures "phoenix approach" happens frequently. These are fast moving fires that quickly burn out and the forest recovers quickly. With all the fuel on the ground built up over the last century a modern fire burns really hot for a very long time creating a sterile environment and the forest takes a long time to recover.
Yet another issue is controlled burns, it's happened in the past where fires that were purposely set have gone out of control.

Seems to me it would be quicker to use explosives to take out trees, but you'd still have to drag them out.
