But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

Scientists have some pretty good evidence that the Earth is about 4 billion years old and that the universe is a little under 14 billion years old. If we started discussing that evidence this could become a science thread, but I'm forced to agree with Mr. Chickpea that this thread is in the wrong forum.

And 6 thousand years is still a factor of more than a million off from 14 billion years, so that particular interpretation of the bible isn't consistent with science, either.

I don't disagree with you. See my earlier post.

You agree that that a literal interpretation of the Bible doesn't support a young Earth? 6000 years + 5000 years = 11000 years is still a very young Earth.

Or do you agree that this doesn't belong here?

Or both?

Both (see my insert above).

All this thread proves is that there are stupid people in government and on CD.

And it does not belong in the science forum as there is no science posted (except for the one intelligent post).

Time to make a mod visit.

It's quite obvious your thread was not about science.

The biggest threat of science to "true believers" is simply that science is not immutable. They require that there be only one "TRUTH" that can be memorized instead of thought about. Thought frightens some people as does change.

The joy of science is that it can change based on observation of the actual situation. If new or more accurate information is obtained that conflicts with existing theory then the theory changes. The greatest example is the description of the great unconformity discovered by Hutton. Once he thought up an explanation that suited the evidence it was obvious that the earth had to be many orders of magnitude older than 6,000 years.

Science accepted this after much argument and more evidence but the Faithful could and did not. As they cannot accept anything but what they are told by some preacher they assign any scientific evidence of method as an instrument of the Devil and sourced straight from Hell.

See there is some science in this thread.
