Ray Kurzweil (the “Singularity” guy) joins Google | Ars Technica

If you're a follower of the Singularity and / or its biggest proponent - Ray Kurzweil - you will know that this could be big news.

Ray has been called the "greatest prognosticator of the future" by Bill Gates and more than one former president. He's been an inventor since he was a small child, when he created a computer to compose music based on other examples (he got to be on television for that on the "I've got a secret"). He conquered his own type 2 diabetes, and started up a conversation about "the singularity", a point at which technological change expands on itself and humanity is left in the dust and either perishes under the weight and awesomeness of his discoveries, or is transformed along with it.

It'll be interesting to see where Ray goes with this title. He's still a prolific inventor and mind, so he won't just be sitting in an office collecting a paycheck while writing more singularity-related books.

This is interesting on many levels, and esp. about where Google is headed.

I haven't entirely wrapped my mind around around what this might mean.

Support of transhumanism and the singularity is terrorism.

Always been impressed wih Kurzeil's commitment to adaptive technology. Really, he was cutting edge 30 years ago with his "Kurzeil's reader" for blind people to access print.

This is interesting news.

I have been impressed with Ray Kruzweil with many things including his ability to put things together with information technology that we all have known separately and then use it to tell us where it is going in the next 30 years. He is nothing short of a genius.
