If you can merge with your computer, you could become very very smart.
Perhaps too smart.
Do you think the govt will want millions of people around that could build their own nuclear weapons with spare parts from the garage? Or their own bio-weapons?
Anyone that gets enhanced that much will probably be under 24 hour surveillance, at least in the beginning.
That is a interesting point however it won't be so easy. It not going to be one day no one is merged with computers then the next people are. It's going to be a number of small steps that few people notice because it will seem like normal. Right now it's with artificial limbs. In a few years that will be seen as normal and no one will notice it and say oh we done that for years. Then it will augment our immune system. Then that will seem normal. The same is already happening with our intelligence. They are going to clinical studies on a way to enhance our memories by merging it with computers in a year or two. Soon that will seem like normal and we will take the next step. By the time computers are the size of blood cells, in the early 2030's, we will be fully integrated with them and it will seem like normal.
because, what you are saying, and maybe you dont know your saying it, is you want to be a god.
That is what the singularity will offer humans if we merge with our technology. And what makes you think the powers that be will want alot of gods around? Things will be regulated far before it gets too close.
and, the whole idea of the singularity is that it will happen all at once, in one place. one second its not there, the next it is. whether it be a computer AI or people merged with nano-brains, there will be an instant switch from something being as smart as a human to being more so.
And, i can tell you, if I were the first person in the world to become a god, I am not going to share that power with the rest of you. I barely trust myself with it, and sure as heck dont trust anyone else.
That is not the definition of the singularity. Ray talks about how it's going to be a number of steps that get us there. That is one of the reasons there is a debate as to when the singularity actually hits. Some argue we are already there and just don't realize it because its "normal".
Let me use this example to illustrate my point. In the 1970's computers were the size of rooms. I remember because I was 5 in 1978 and my dads company had one and it was in a cold "computer room" that was loud and fun to go in. Today my i phone is millions of times faster and thousands of times smaller, a billion fold increase. Yet it was not one big step from that computer to this one it was a number of steps that got us here. The same is going to happen in the next 20-30 years as computers become the size of blood cells. That is why I refer to the 2020's as the pre singularity.

Yes, I am aware of that. I have been reading about this stuff for well over a decade now, so I have had some time to think about it.
However, the singularity, by its nature, will happen in ONE place at ONE time. Yes, steps will lead to it in many places, but it will happen FIRST at only one of them.
Now, if you were the first god and you found out you could wipe out all other beings within days, would you allow others to share your power?
Computers are going to keep getting faster and smaller, and probably will be put into people. But if they get too smart, they get too dangerous, and they will be stopped.
Watch this movie, and you might get an idea of what could happen.
It won't be like any of the fictional movies we have. As far as only being one person. Just look at the smart phone. It was not just one person who had it but a number of people all over the world about the same time. The same thing will happen as humans merge with computers. It won't be one person but will happen in steps all over the world till finally technology is advancing so fast the singularity will be here.
Imagine a billion flashbulbs firing simultaneously every second of everyday. That, my dear friend, is how the singularity will feel when it is here: Bright and Dazzling.
I believe the technology will be shared when it is invented for a simple motivator: Money.
Have no fear, it shall be tested on apes first, more than likely…

they wont. the entire high tech world is fueled by massive amounts of spending.
when u shut off the green valve it all comes to a screaming stop.
