Sounds of slot machines can manipulate players, researchers say - The Washington Post

Good article-although none of it is surprising.

I've been to Casinos' in about 5 different states and Canada. They built one about 5 miles away a few years back. Haven't been there yet.

I go through about 20 bucks paying low cost keno machines and that's enough for me. Casinos exist to make money and it baffles my mind that people would blow their whole paycheck there thinking they could ever, in a million years, come out 'ahead' in the long run.

I mostly go to them for the food... I like buffets.

These machines are all pre-programmed against the player to payback only a small per cent age. The noises, sound effects whistles and bells are to stimulate the players brain to spur him on to keep playing until his money is all gone. With people hope springs eternal. When the machine pays out, usually a one time event, people get greedy and think they can win again, but soon it's all gone.
