I have no idea who my natural parents were and therefore know nothing about my genetic background.

I was told by someone I don't know whether or not I believe that my parents were from eastern Tennessee and were part Irish and part Cherokee.

I've been curious for some time and being aware that some labs provide DNA testing for individuals, I began to wonder whether or not to have my own tested just to set my mind at ease.

What's your reaction?

How comprehensive were the results?
What did they include?

Dozens of correlations with various illnesses and physical characteristics, with more being added all the time.

There was also an ancestry analysis that showed my DNA had a very high percentage of Northern European ancestry, which was consistent with what I expected.

In addition, I opted in to be contacted by other users of the service who were shown to be related. So far, the contacts have all been from very distant relatives who I'm not able to sync up with my family tree.

If I had a nickel for every time some woman came around asking to test my DNA, I'd have....75 cents.

I have been very interested in doing that myself. I was told by my father that I am 1/4 native American. Pequot and Huron and would love to be able to verify it as my mother told me that she thought he made it all up... on the day of his funeral. I hardly know anything about my family history thanks to my mother being of no help when we had those sorts of projects in school. Unfortunately since being NA was considered something to hide and be ashamed of as recently as the 70's there have not been any records that I have been able to turn up to determine my real ancestry.

You're confused about what teat they want you to have done.
