TOKYO - Compared to a virtuoso, its rendition was a trifle stilted and, well, robotic. But Toyota's new robot plays a pretty solid "Pomp and Circumstance" on the violin.

The 5-foot-tall all-white robot, shown Thursday, used its mechanical fingers to press the strings correctly and bowed with its other arm, coordinating the movements well.

Toyota Motor Corp. has already shown robots that roll around to work as guides and have fingers dexterous enough to play the trumpet.

Doesn't this just give you all a warm and fuzzy feeling regarding purchasing a Toyota? LOL... no, me neither.

It's great to see such progress in robotics! I don't think many of the jobs out there are in jeopardy at any point in the near future. There are not many hospital patients who are comfortable with a non-human caring for their health...

True, some surgeries these days are being done using robotic technology. This makes surgery comparable to playing a video game to some surgeons, as scarry as that sounds. Hopefully, they won't get angry and go ballistic when they can't advance to the next level of the game and end up killing the patient. LOL!

On a more serious note, I wish that one day they would sell robots for home use. They could cook, clean, do laundry, take out the trash, drive ya to the airport, and so much more. That would be so awesome!!!!!!!!!

Humanoids working in hospitals? I thought that's what they already were.

Humans currently work in most hospitals (at least the ones that I have been to ). A humanoid is a different concept. You can learn more about them here.

Uh, my post was a joke. Or a snide comment. Take your pick.

Sorry, alleycat, that must be that "sarcasm" thing I've been hearing about.

With some of the people I've met on here, I actually thought an explanation may be necessary - is that sad?

You did kind of surprise me. My comment was a jab at hospital people . . . who sometimes can show less warmth than a humanoid probably does (not that I've met many humanoids).

;-)
