If we did find such signals they could be billions of years old.

We do receive radio signals from space from time to time.
There is all kinds of radio signals coming from space, nothing has been determined to be intelligent.

Pi is universal, even a billion light years away.

No, they should something useful, like the formula to master light speed. But they have to learn English, otherwise how will be able to distinguish it from regular space noise we have been receiving for years ?

They have most likely been here and saw what humans are doing to the planet and they just shook their heads and left. Maybe they couldn't even see past all the smoke.

Math is the universal language - it extends beyond simple words and into fundamental principles. Any interstellar communication would first present itself as a repeating pattern or a mathematical identity.

Of course there's life on other planets, the Earth is just a penal colony for space.

I would be very excited to see your evidence.

Or is your view based on faith?

It's how information is compacted into a wave and transmitted. In other words, we are getting signals from space, we just can't see recognizable patterns in those waves. From my googling on the subject we get "loud" waves that Originate in our solar system, and we believe those are naturally occurring waves. We also get weak waves from further away, but we don't know what it is.

It would seem to me that any intelligent life that wanted to communicate would use a beacon in it's simplest form. For example we can have a pattern that is Pi, easily disseminated and easily recognizable. That could be followed by something more complex....
