Hey, my pc is roughly the same age.. and it runs all modern games and works great. And for the record, win7 was released in 2009
Anyway, I'm using a 2010 desktop I put together myself and it works great - the only thing I had to upgrade was the graphics card, but I went for a cheap one (gtx 660) and it works. And I have yet to find a game that wouldn't run well, though most of the time it's low/med details (but full hd).
Phone.. I don't know really, but it's been 4 or so years too. It has a cracked window and looks like it's been through a lot, but it works well enough I don't need a new one. It's a Samsung Galaxy s3 mini.

Sandy bridge came out in 2011 and thanks to lack of competition from amd along with focus on mobile, a sandy bridge built early 2011 is still very viable... My 2600k runs @ 4.5 GHz and runs windows 10. I built it I'm early 2011. I plan to upgrade when PCI express 4.0 is part of processors. I did upgrade my bedroom computer to skylake so my mother could have better computer though.

Theres still not a massive IPC increase from sandy bridge to what we have now. Once we hit 50% IPC increase clock for clock from my 2600k with a $400 processor that runs 8 cores and PCI express 4 I might be more tempted to upgrade.

Doom won't run on your rig. Battlefield 1 will not run on your rig. Overwatch? No. Destiny 2? No.
